My organization uses a graphic rating scale as the performance appraisal tool, and there is both self-rating and supervisor versions of the tool. With the graphic rating scale, the tool will list out several job dimensions or traits and a range of performance values usually from “below expectations” to “outstanding” for each trait (Dessler, 2020). In my organizations case, the employee will fill out the scale based on how they think they performed and then supervisor will do the same and then the two will compare and talk about any differences and what can be done to help in any areas a person may be lacking. One of my organizations strategic goals is to continue to expand workforce development to help broaden access to healthcare for our community. By using performance appraisal tools, the organization is able to expand workforce development by promoting from within and providing new training and programs based on results from the tool and can expand healthcare for the community. A performance management process provides a foundation for employee growth and development, and it can be adapted and used to help evaluate everyone based on their respective jobs and positions within the organization.
